With the popularity of the game the past week or so on here, I finally started writing a game guide, giving you my ~500 game hours of experience (that sounds like a lot, but there's still so much I don't know about this gigantically complex game).

The assumption is that you have a basic understanding of how the game works.
Ship Design- Because it seems complicated and in fact, is extremely complicated.
I'll start by saying energy collectors on ships are useless.
They only work when a ship is stationary and inside the bounds of a solar system or gas cloud. They give a small amount of Energy depending on the star type and how close the ship is to the star. In effect, they allow the ship some Energy that doesn't use Fuel, diminishing or eliminating the drain of Static Energy (components like Life Support have a constant Energy drain, this will very, very slowly eat at the ship's Fuel). However, there are several other reasons to get rid of them, aside from having very little utility-
Energy Collectors belong on stations, and that's that.
The order that components show up on the list is the order in which they will be built during construction.
The game features characters from across the, and franchises, who are seized by an unknown force and brought together in a mysterious location known as the Nexus to do battle. On December 13, 2018, Blizzard decided to pull some developers to other projects and announce that the Heroes Global Championship and Heroes of the Dorm will not return in 2019. Official Starter Pack boxHeroes of the Storm, often shortened to Heroes or HotS (even though 'HotS' can also refer to a expansion), is a 'hero brawler' game which was initially inspired by the custom map for. Heroes of the storm install location.
Dual Hyperdrives- the double dipping exploit.
If a ship has two different hyperdrives, it will use the highest speed of the two, the fastest jump time of the two and the highest energy usage of the two.
Drive A- 15,000 speed, 15 second jump, 50 energy
Drive B- 10,000 speed, 5 second jump, 75 energy
Resultant ship stats- 15,000 speed, 5 second jump, 75 energy.
Due to the extra size, cost and energy use, this is best reserved for use on large military ships. It gives the added benefit of reducing the chance of -No Hyperdrive- due to damage.
A ship with around 6 cruise speed and lower will have difficulty catching up to some planets and moons to refuel/dock.
For military ships, keep an eye on the hyperdrive energy cost, sprint energy cost, weapon energy cost and shield recharge speed. If the combined is higher than the surplus energy, the ship will slow down during a fight while trying to escape with hyperdrive.
Smaller ships should be given more armor compared to large ships to give them more time to escape after their shields go down.
Ships with the majority of their damage output at around 300 range and shorter should be set to Point Blank stance for both weaker and stronger enemies. They will do significantly less damage at All Weapons.
Hab and Life components give more than there stated size allowance.
A pair of hab and life give (stated size)+3.
ie- a Tier 1 hab and life give (85)+3
two of each give (170)+6
ect.
There is no benefit to extra Life Support or Hab Modules, aside from Habs giving extra boarding defense.
Since Freighters can only have one weapon, gravitic and railgun weapons are the best choice, since they ignore shields and cause ships to flee from component damage.
Don't forget ECM and targeters.
Save and load your ship designs so you don't have to redo them every game.
Ion weapons attack weapons, engines and hyperdrives. The number of components an Ion weapon knocks out is dependent on the size of the components it hits (random components are hit). A blaster at size 5 takes 5 damage. A component does not need to take full damage to be knocked out- a hyperdrive at size 22 can get knocked out by 1 Ion damage.
The Ion Defense gets hit first, taking damage similar to normal components, however, each time an Ion Defense is hit, it goes 'offline' just like a normal component hit by Ion damage, during this time it will not defend against additional Ion damage. Therefore you need more than just a couple to defend against multiple Ion weapons. If your enemy is spamming Ion and it's giving you a rough time, roll out some fast-moving carriers.
Ship design schools of thought.
Clones- pick a random class and design a multipurpose ship. Spam it and nothing else.
Realistic- design a different ship for each class and have swarms of escorts defending your cruisers and capitol ships.
Layers- Have each class just be a larger version of the last.
Stand-off: Fighters, Missiles and some Torpedoes
Firepower: Lazorz, Phazorz and Torpedorz
Well, I guess that's just about it. Think I'll do Fleets next.

This is a list of all the preset military ships. You can also create your own ships.
Military ShipsEdit
Military Ships are generally state ships with weapons. Their job is to patrol, defend and attack.
EscortEdit
Likely one of the first military ships you will build, these ships are best used to patrol smaller colonies, mining stations and other small bases.
FrigateEdit
These are fast moving military ships which often make up the bulk of your fleets. These are good for defending large colonies and spaceports but can be used to attack, though most effective in large numbers
DestroyerEdit
This is a military ship type which is best used for offensive actions. Sometimes carrying troops, they are well armed and armoured and are usually the biggest ship type you can build at the start of the game.
CruiserEditDistant Worlds Universe Ship Design Pictures
Cruisers generally have a good balance weapons, shielding and speed and are suited to being strike ships. Often the main part of offensive fleets, they are best used to attack other empires. They sometimes carry troops and often need several reactors to support their heavy weapons. They need to be researched in the tech tree before they can be built.
CarrierEdit
Carriers are military ships which can carry and deploy large numbers of star fighters. As they usually have weak weaponry, carriers should always be escorted by other ships. They need to be researched in the tech tree before they can be built.
Capital ShipsEdit
The largest type of military ship, capital ships are unmatched in attack and defence. They are larger and more heavily armed than any other military ship but are slower and less agile than other ships. They usually carry troops and often serve as the lead ship for fleets. They need to be researched in the tech tree before they can be built.
Troop TransportsEdit
Troop Transports are military ships that are dedicated to moving troops to and from colonies and ships, and can also partake in invasions. Usually not well armed, they often need escorts when they are travelling. They need to be researched in the tech tree before they can be built.
Resupply ShipsEdit
Resupply Ships are large, mobile bases that serve as refuelling points for other ships. They can also mine gases from gas giants or gas clouds. They need to slowly deploy to be able to refuel or mine gas. Once deployed, they are immobile until undeployed. While well armed and armoured, they are vulnerable to large attack fleets. These are often used deep in enemy territory, serving as a refuelling point for attacking forces. They need to be researched in the tech tree before they can be built.
Distant Worlds is a real-time grand strategy wargame developed by Code Force and published by Matrix Games.[2]
Distant Worlds was released on March 25, 2010.[3][4] Three subsequent expansions, Return of the Shakturi, Legends, and Shadows were released in 2010, 2011, and 2013, respectively.[5][6][7] The game appeared on the Steam platform on May 23, 2014 under the name Distant Worlds: Universe, gathering the original game and all expansions into a single package with new content.[8]
Gameplay[edit]
Gameplay features up to 1,400 star systems, with up to 50,000 planets, moons and asteroids in a single game session.
Key differences from other games of the genre are the vast scale, along with task automation systems that help the player manage their empire.
Reception[edit]
Distant Worlds received generally positive reviews upon its release.[9]RTSguru gave it 8 out of 10, praising the replayability and large galaxies, while diverting some criticism towards the user interface and graphics.[10]Gamesquad awarded it an 8.0 out of 10, praising the automation options and the economical system of the game. However, they expressed some concern towards the game's tutorial, stating that 'while the game does help the new player with its efficient UI and two tutorials, the player still feels like the game stuffs him in a spacesuit, gives him a pat on the back and kicks him out the airlock to fend for himself.'[11]Metacritic recorded a weighted average score of 81/100 for Distant Worlds: Universe.[12]
Space Sector initially had mixed feelings towards the game, giving it 5.0 out of 10. While praising the vastness of the game, they ultimately felt that the interface, steep learning curve, lackluster graphics and some bad design implementations had made Distant Worlds'a dry, sterile, overwhelming, boring and ultimately not fun game to play.' The reviewer, Adam Solo, later modified his article to an 8.8 out of 10, stating the game had vastly improved after several patches and its first expansion were released.[13]
Rock Paper Shotgun gave the Distant Worlds: Universe collection its Best Strategy Game of 2014 award.[14]
